Why I'm Running: Keeping Carroll, Carroll – For Our Families and Our Future

Hello, neighbors in Sykesville, Eldersburg, and all across District 5,
I'm Tommy, a resident of Sykesville and a proud dad raising two young kids right here in Carroll County. In just a few short years, they'll be walking the halls of our public schools, playing on local fields, and growing up in the same safe, affordable community that shaped many of you. That's why I'm stepping up to run for County Commissioner in the June 2026 Republican primary—because our way of life is worth fighting for, and I want to make sure it's still here for them and for every family in District 5.
At my core, I believe government should serve the people, not burden them. That's why my first tenet is simple: No new taxes or tax increases. Carroll County families and small businesses already face enough pressure from rising costs and state overreach. I've spent years curating, operating, and balancing real-world budgets—skills I'll bring straight to the county level to cut waste, prioritize essentials, and keep more money in your pocket. We don't need higher taxes; we need smarter spending.
Strong law and order is non-negotiable. Our neighborhoods should be safe places where kids can play outside, and families feel secure. I'll stand firmly behind our sheriff's office and first responders, giving them the resources to combat crime, drugs, and any threats that creep in from outside. No sanctuary policies, no excuses—just results that protect what we've built.
Education is personal for me. With my two little ones heading to our public schools soon, I know how vital it is that they get a top-notch, no-nonsense education focused on reading, math, history, and real skills—not divisive agendas or unfunded mandates from Annapolis. I'll fight to maintain high standards, support our dedicated teachers, and keep local control so parents' voices matter most.
Finally, my guiding principle: Keep Carroll, Carroll. We're blessed with beautiful farmland, open spaces, and a rural heritage that defines us. I support thoughtful, balanced growth that respects property rights and doesn't pave over our agriculture or turn our county into another crowded suburb. Let's preserve what makes Carroll special—our farms, our traditions, our independence—while ensuring it's affordable and welcoming for the next generation.
I'm new to elected office, but I'm not new to responsibility or to putting family and community first. This isn't about politics as usual; it's about bringing fresh focus and common-sense leadership to District 5.
Together, we can keep Carroll County strong, safe, and true to its roots.
I'd love to hear from you—what issues matter most in your household? Drop a comment below, sign up for updates, or reach out. Let's build this campaign as a team.
Thank you for your support,
Tommy Gibson
